There are two lasting bequests we can give our children. One is roots. The other is wings. ~Hodding Carter, Jr.

Momma and Baby Deer
Our First Playdate
We met with 4 other mommies/babies yesterday and made some great friends. It was nice to share birth stories, baby milestones, trials, tribulations, and even enjoy some Dunkin Donuts coffee with pastries. The babies liked to look at each other and try out each others toys. It was nice to get out and enjoy the company of other women who are going through the same things. Like I told Zack and Christina, I was nervous at first, hanging out with a bunch of strangers...but all the babies cried, all of them had to eat at some point during the date, they all puked, and they all gave us a moment of quiet time by closing their sweet eyes and sleeping in our arms. It was as unintimidating as it could be. Our next scheduled date is next Tuesday with one of my favorite mommies from the group, Stacy. I turned over a new leaf!

Splish Splash
We woke up Saturday morning and decided to take Luke to the pool at Pine Lake. We packed our bags like we were taking a 3 week trip to Europe, being sure to bring all varieties of sunscreen from SPF 15 to 55, plenty of towels, changes of clothes, swim diapers, baby hats, as well as all the other general baby necessities that might come in handy.
Although it wasn't his first trip to a pool, this was Luke's first of many trips he will make to Pine Lake in his lifetime. He also had to try out the new floatie Grammy Folnsbee got for him. The float was a hit! His little legs kicked on the bottom of the baby pool and he was eager to lean his head back on the inflated pillow, quickly pulling back up to avoid getting his hair wet...reminds me of myself. For the most part, Luke liked it and even tried splashing like the big kids. He didn't like when the big kids splashed him, though! Do any of us?

Sleepy Boo
Countless nights have passed that we've been awakened by our hungry little prince, but not last night! The last several nights, Luke has been consistent about falling asleep right around 8 or 8:15pm. He must have decided this is his bed time which suits us just fine!!!! Last night he maintained consistency and fell asleep at 8:15pm and didn't wake up until 6:50am this morning! HORRAY! Let's keep our fingers crossed that he has turned over a new leaf and continues his sleeping through the night!!! Mommy and Daddy both feel energized and well rested today! Good job, Bobba Lu!! Keep up the good work :)

New Trick's Up Our Sleeve
Luke has been rolling over from tummy to back for several weeks now. We were just lucky enough to catch a video of this milestone last week! He is still surprised when he gets turned over and lets us all know by busting out in tears!!! He's just not sure how he ended up that way!

Jump & Go = Big Smiles
Long-time friends of our family, Bob and Betty Canter, sent us a jumperoo for Luke. We got it on Saturday and the first time we put Luke in it, he absolutely loved it! Although he hasn't caught on to jumping yet, he enjoys when we bounce him, swinging around and pushing off the ground with his feet. He is also able to inadvertently tap the toys on the tray, creating a musical delight for him to swing and glide to. There are several kiddo songs that play that I haven't heard in forever and it excites me to be able to recite them. You should see my enthusiasm when "3 Little Indians" plays. (This was supposed to be a toy for Luke, not mommy!!!)

"It's 11:11 pm, make a wish"
As we lied in bed with the lights out last night, I glanced at the clock and saw 11:11 pm. Call it superstition, call it chance, call it what you will but I call it an opportunity to make a wish. Some wish upon stars, some when they toss a penny in a fountain. I wish upon the clock when it strikes 11:11. I said to Zack, "It's 11:11, make a wish" and he agreed to. A moment later I said, "I know what you wished for" and he said he knew what I wished for, too. I asked what he thought I wished for and he said, jokingly, "A new camera." I let him know that wasn't my wish but I knew he knew we both wished for the same thing. We were quiet for a few minutes. Out of nowhere, Zack says, "Your wish was for our son to sleep through the night." I started giggling because I knew that was his wish, too. We have been hoping for this for some time now.
Although Luke didn't sleep through the night last night, I realize how special it is when Zack and I come together with our thoughts and wishes. It's a blessing to be able to share my life with him and Luke. Thank you, God, for blending our lives together and teaching me how to function on the lack of sleep, a talent I've never been able to accomplish before.
